Training & Development
Training and development is integral to Pointer’s business values. Many of our senior staff have progressed on our ‘career path’ through the company as a result of training and development.
The ‘career path’ is core to staff development at Pointer. Whether you start as an apprentice or join the business later you have the opportunity to develop your skills on a continuous basis up to including university. This enables the business to adapt as our market changes.
Pointer provides a variety of training and development options to cater for different circumstances and learning styles. In the past year 360 Pointer staff were accredited with certification after attending 34 external courses including EUSR, ECS, Eco Driving, CISCO, CPD Klaxon, South West Microwave Intrepid, IOSH. CITB and ILM 3 & 5. Internally we train apprentices and have done since the late 1970s, mentor staff, and hold regular tool box talks. We also offer online courses for asbestos, health and safety, and IT Security.
Responsibility for staff training and development rests with line managers assisted by the learning and development department. Appraisals are used to identity both needs and opportunities and to monitor progress. The development and progression of staff through the business is testament to the real benefits of training and development for both staff and the business.
