Ken MacDonald, Technical Manager

Ken MacDonald is Pointer's Technical Manager. He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of technical design, including proof of concept and risk analysis, working across multiple product and sectoral disciplines. He forms a key part in many of our dedicated project teams.

Experience

Ken MacDonald has worked for Pointer throughout the EMEA region. He is closely involved with project teams working on large scale projects in UK and abroad, delivering technical solutions for a wide range of corporate clients.

Ken works closely with our large corporate clients, ensuring the systems deployed for them, meet the needs of each individual facility. He liaises closely with key vendors ensuring that the correct equipment is specified for any given installation, often in challenging environments.

Outwith his time at Pointer, Ken has worked on a number of major projects in the Middle East, including the prestigious project at Ras Laffan port in Qatar. 

At Ras Laffan, Ken initially worked as part of the team designing the physical and electronic security systems, before being appointed Design Team Lead for the project. As such, he had a number of Subject Matter Experts (SME's) working for him to ensure that all aspects of the design were suitable for such a prestigious project.

Systems included IP video, Access Control, Traffic management incorporating ANPR, intruder detection systems with multiple elements including radar technology and intelligent video. The design also included two Command Centres to allow monitoring and management of the systems throughout the port.

Ras Laffan is currently the largest LNG export facility in the world, and when complete will be the largest man made harbour in the world. It is of strategic importance to the State of Qatar.
