Our
dedicated Fire division have a wealth of experience in working
on a large scale, multiple site contract and can provide worked
examples of how we have coped with changes to that portfolio
over time.

Education Sector
One particular project was on behalf of a major
UK university. We took on multiple sites for the university,
whose sites have increased annually. The built environment at the
university has changed immeasurably over the period of our contract
and we have been required to incorporate building extensions,
additional buildings and more onto the existing system. The major
lessons we learned were to be flexible and able to work around the
specific workings of the sites in question.
Pre-planning and liaison, the key to good
partnerships
Pre-planning and liaison with the client was key to enable us to
deliver the projects on time and on budget. Liaison involved
speaking with central management and local site managers in order
to ensure no disruption.
Councils
Another contract we took on which changed considerably over time
was on behalf of a major UK Council. We took on a large number
of sites which included care homes for the elderly and hostels
across the city.
As the Fire system signalling for the systems on site went to a
number of different control rooms, we took this project on and
changed the system to send it back to Pointer's own Event Monitoring
Centre in Glasgow. This aspect of the contract was not in the
initial documents however due to our change control procedures we
were able to address this issue to the client's satisfaction.
One thing we have learned is that in order to provide a cost
saving to the customer, if we are able to agree a value for minor
repairs, these could be carried out by the engineer at the time of
the initial inspection, eliminating the need to have a costly
second site visit. This is facilitated by the engineer carrying a
stock of the most likely parts and consumables required by the
portfolio of sites.
