Water Company Systems Upgrade

Pointer are involved in a long term Framework Agreement with a large Water company to install new systems, upgrade existing systems and service and maintain key high security operational locations at over 500 sites. This partnership has been in place now for over twelve years.

Project Scope

We have provided Hatch Detection Systems, Integrated SMS Front Ends, Analogue CCTV, IP CCTV, Wireless CCTV, Perimeter Intruder Detection systems, and access control. Pointer have a framework agreement to supply, install, commission and provide service agreements for all types of sites operating under NEC3 Framework Agreements direct with the water company and its delivery Contractors.

Delivery

Phase 1, covering 32 sites was completed within an 18 month period. Due to the volume of work involved and the timescales for completion (by the end of the investment period), the project was resource intensive. The challenge for Pointer was retaining the high level of quality and commissioning technical skill sets whilst meeting the client’s key dates for delivery of the project. To overcome the resource challenge, Pointer employed the Water company framework electrical sub-contractors for all first fix cabling, power and containment with the more technical elements of the works undertaken by our in-house engineering teams. In addition, we seconded a number of senior service engineers to the project allowing more sites to be commissioned concurrently using appropriate skill sets. We worked closely with them to allow the annual maintenance scheduling to be adjusted to a lean programme meaning that there were peaks within the maintenance schedule at times when commissioning was not labour intensive and dips in the maintenance schedule when more commissioning resources were required for commissioning of specialist systems on the project (such as Watercress). The overall water maintenance programme was not affected and all preventative maintenance visits were completed as per the contract requirements.
