Job Title:                         Design & Proposals Engineer

Reports to:                      Design & Proposals Manager

Location:                         FLEXIBLE

Core Hours:                    0830 – 1700

Role Purpose

Due to continued growth, a permanent position has arisen for a full time Design & Proposals Engineer to support the projects & sales team.

The successful candidate will have previous engineering experience in the delivery of integrated systems with a good working knowledge of CCTV, Intruder Alarm Systems, Access Control and Security Management Systems. In addition, the successful candidate will have good IT skills with a thorough knowledge of Microsoft packages as well as a basic understanding of IT networks.

The position will be primarily office based but will require travel to customer sites as required. A Company car will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Proposals

  • Collate costings for proposals through liaising with key suppliers for quotations (and/or tenders).
  • Assisting the Project Sales team with the compilation of specifications, equipment schedules and cost sheets.
  • Working closely with the CAD team ensuring accuracy in the creation of drawings.
  • Providing support in writing professional proposals and specifications.
  • Communicate with Customers, Suppliers and other Contractors to understand and capture system requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to sell additional works and system enhancements.

Design

  • Liaising with Manufacturers/Suppliers to ensure compatibility of products proposed.
  • Evaluation of products proposed by Manufacturers for suitability.
  • Use innovation to enable the proposal of best value solutions for competitive tenders whilst meeting specification compliance.
  • Awareness of environmental impact from design proposals.
  • Assisting the Project Sales team with the compilation of specifications, equipment schedules and cost sheets.
  • Creation of Schematic diagrams through Hand Drawn and Microsoft Visio for conversion to AutoCAD as
  • Creation of cable schedules for engineering teams to implement on site as
  • Creation of power load calculations of equipment proposed to allow electrical loads to be calculated by

Site Surveys

  • Visit customer sites to understand local site limitations and requirements.
  • CSCS (or equivalent) is required along with EUSR Water Hygiene and Substation Access Certificate. Pointer will arrange for all accreditations through training courses as required.

Documentation

  • Liaise with internal Administration Document Controller to ensure all relevant reference numbers are applied to design drawings and
  • Submit design documentation for internal review and arrange for issue to clients within agreed

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in the electronic security industry.
  • Effectively demonstrate a working knowledge of the relevant Industry Standards (NSI).
  • Ability to work well as part of a busy team and have a flexible attitude to working hours.
  • Must be computer literate and conversant in Microsoft software suites (Excel, Word, (Visio and AutoCAD beneficial).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Present a professional image.
  • Possess strong customer liaison skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload independently to ensure internal and external deadlines are
  • Valid UK driving license essential.
  • Must be committed to continuously developing in line with company
