Pointer delivers planned and reactive fire system support across a major UK university estate. Our systems protect over 40 buildings including academic blocks, laboratories, halls of residence, and research facilities.
We’ve worked with the university since 2016 and successfully retained the contract through re-tender in 2022. Our dedicated team manages testing, maintenance, and upgrade works in line with campus operations and compliance schedules.
Reliable delivery for a diverse estate
The campus includes a wide range of environments – from communal housing to high-spec laboratories. Each demands careful planning, sensitive access management, and system knowledge built over time.
We provide:
- Two PPM visits per year across all systems
- 100% testing of all devices during the summer shutdown
- Reactive callouts with response SLAs from one to four hours
- Installation and upgrade works where required
Systems include GENT, Morley, Advanced and Kentec – all supported by our formal accreditation as a Gent 24 Elite Technology Centre.
Dedicated engineering team with local knowledge
To ensure continuity, we assigned a senior engineer and support engineer to lead all routine site visits. Their knowledge of the estate and systems reduces fault resolution time and builds long-term relationships with site staff.
For reactive support, they’re backed by our regional engineering team and helpdesk – with engineers remaining on site during peak periods to reduce risk and maximise uptime.
Planning around university life
Every site has a tailored RAMS plan, and all access is scheduled to avoid disruption to teaching, events and term-time operations.
We confirm all visits in advance, adjust schedules as needed, and log every interaction through SimPRO – giving the client clear visibility of completed works, upcoming tasks and escalation history.
Although the client has chosen not to use the portal, our helpdesk provides full call handling, progress updates and reporting through a single point of contact.
Service delivery aligned with values
Every Pointer engineer working on campus receives a contract-specific induction, code of conduct, and briefing on expected standards – supporting the university’s own values around professionalism, respect and social responsibility.
Our team reflects those values on site – combining technical competence with a reliable, people-first approach.
Supporting smarter fault resolution
To help reduce downtime and avoid unnecessary callouts, our engineers provide on-the-spot system training during scheduled visits, allowing local teams to resolve simple issues quickly and prevent mis-operation.
