A major UK water company appointed Pointer as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer to upgrade intruder systems across 167 operational sites – many of them rural, unmanned, or challenging to access.
We managed design, installation, and support over a 16-month programme – delivering full system replacement without affecting day-to-day operations.
Obsolescence across the network
The client required a complete upgrade following manufacturer end-of-life notices. The work needed to cover remote infrastructure, tight access constraints, and a busy live estate.
We delivered a practical, resilient solution based on Galaxy Intruder Detection Systems – installed to a consistent standard across all locations. We now maintain the systems under a national service contract, with warranties and live support in place.
Scaled delivery built on proven results
The project began with a successful three-site pilot. Once approved, we accelerated to full rollout.
Two dedicated engineer pairs handled site delivery, supported by a sector-experienced supervisor and a national project manager.
- 167 sites upgraded in 16 months
- 95% of work delivered by Pointer engineers
- Minimal disruption to day-to-day operations
We grouped nearby sites to reduce travel time, planned access in advance, and brought in 4×4 vehicles for harder-to-reach locations.
That meant faster installs and smarter use of site time.
Systems configured for long-term performance
Galaxy IDS was the right fit for the estate – robust, consistent, easy to maintain.
To reduce the risk of disarming errors, we introduced a timed auto-arm feature. Every system now arms automatically overnight – no manual input required.
Once the hardware was installed, the client’s internal teams carried out SCADA integration and full end-to-end testing followed – confirming every system was live and secure.
Continued service and forward planning
We continue to maintain the systems through a national service contract, with fresh warranties and responsive support in place.
The next phase is already underway. We’re now working with the client to migrate over 100 sites to a more advanced platform – designed for higher compliance and evolving threats.
